Villains as main characters in Taiwanese dramas? It is worth knowing that in Taiwanese TV dramas, show-stealing villains share equal importance as the leading characters.
Self-interest, scheming, and villainous intentions make up the characters’ profiles and shape the occurrences in plays, thus appealing to viewers. This is a brief snapshot of some of the Best Taiwanese drama to watch.
4 Most Popular Villains in Taiwanese Dramas
Some Taiwanese dramas have the best memorable villains. Here is the list of the most remarkable villains in Taiwanese movies.
Mrs.Tang in (The Victims’ Game)
Madame Tang, portrayed by the actress Cheryl Yang, is an ambitious character with a touch of theتقtrail of authority and rule by force. She remains cunning in The Victims’ Game, where she deliberately affects the turn of events for her selfish ends. This trait is progressive and far beyond the usual sophistication of a TV drama.
Her behavior is cold, calculated, and manipulative. She appears to have power over those she encounters. She also implies that Taiwanese drama does not lack villains as believable and terrifying as any protagonist, creating a thrill in the crime drama.
Yunxiang Hao in (The Perfect Match)
The characters in The Perfect Match may initially look like your typical rom-com tropes, but there is an entertaining twist with Hao Yun Xiang’s character, portrayed by Wu Kang-ren – he is the villain!
By exterior, this man looks like an exemplary gentleman, yet he is jealous and tries to dominate the protagonist, Wei Fen Qing, through deceit. He has an aura of a more psychological villain in the show because his evil is quite understated and realistic; he is easily relatable, making the show incredibly creepy.
Zhen Zhen’s Mother in (Autumn’s Concerto)
Although Zhen Zhen’s mother is not portrayed as an antagonist in Autumn’s Concerto, her intentions are indefensible, and thus, she can be considered an antagonist in the series.
Chen Zhi Qiang’s portrayal shows her scheming to continue dominating her daughter’s life, greatly hampering Zhen Zhen’s joy and personal development. More so, obsession and fear are not features usually associated with love, but her character shows how wrong it can turn and go to the dark side. The show could not emphasize that she is toxic to her family by constantly interfering in their affairs.
Gao Yi in (BitterSweet)
Gao Yi, portrayed by Huang Jian Wei, is among the most widely recognized enemies ever featured in Taiwanese dramas. In Bitter Sweet, he is heartless and cunning and would go to any length to accomplish his goals, even if it means cheating and betraying someone. His role perfectly represents the evil side of human greed, which poses a threat to the hero and, therefore, intrigues the audience.
These villain characters have enriched Taiwanese drama, showing that an antagonist can be as multidimensional as a hero. These strong characters range from the calculating criminal mastermind to the subtle, manipulative personality, making Taiwanese dramas full of interest and depth and eliciting strong emotions.

WOLFS BE GONE — (Via Deadline) Jon Watts, the filmmaker who stepped out of the Spider-Man franchise with Tom Holland and Zendaya to script and direct George Clooney and Brad Pitt n the film Wolfs for Apple, created a press dustup yesterday when he let slip that he and they would not be doing a sequel, even though Wolfs became by far the most viewed feature film ever released on Apple TV+.
Deadline revealed plans for a sequel at the same time we divulged that Apple had moved off plans for a full theatrical release in favor of a limited one with a quick jump to the streaming site. This followed Fly Me To The Moon ‘sinability to measure up in its extended box office run. Suffice to say that even though they showed up for the Venice premiere, all of the principals were very disappointed by the pivot.
This is at the root of the sequel going away. It is similar to when Doug Liman feuded with Amazon after hisRoad Houseremake went straight to streaming despite his deal for a theatrical release and huge test scores, and he is not returning for the inevitable sequel. It underscores the continuing dilemma between streaming bows and risky theatrical release deals with big P&A spends. Apple is right now shooting the Brad Pitt-starrerF1, which will get a full theatrical release through Warner Bros before heading for Apple TV+.
Watts has given Deadline an exclusive explanation of his view of what happened. Here goes:
“I showed Apple my final cut ofWolfsearly this year,” Watts told Deadline. “They were extremely enthusiastic about it and immediately commissioned me to start writing a sequel. But their last minute shift from a promised wide theatrical release to a streaming release was a total surprise and made without any explanation or discussion. I wasn’t even told about it until less than a week before they announced it to the world. I was completely shocked and asked them to please not include the news that I was writing a sequel. They ignored my request and announced it in their press release anyway, seemingly to create a positive spin to their streaming pivot. And so I quietly returned the money they gave me for the sequel. I didn’t want to talk about it because I was proud of the film and didn’t want to generate any unnecessary negative press. I loved working with Brad and George (and Amy and Austin and Poorna and Zlatko) and would happily do it again. But the truth is that Apple didn’t cancel theWolfssequel, I did, because I no longer trusted them as a creative partner.”
Wolfs was a fun romp; certainly not the serious direction that Clooney is best known for, but it did have its moments. Amy Ryan was excellent too. It should have goner to the big screen at least for two weeks. Bad call all around if you ask me. Actually, the reps for the stars should address this as well – I mean, was this the best script that could be pulled for these two?
Pitt’s forthcoming F1 racing epic is through Apple too, so stay tuned.
Roger Friedman (SHOWBIZ 411) floated an interesting idea: the two stars could buy the rights and make it into a series. Read it here: https://www.showbiz411.com/2024/11/22/no-sequel-for-brad-pitt-george-clooney-wolfs-movie-after-original-bomb
SHORT TAKES — I’ve really enjoyed the Cher-tid-bits from her just-out memoir – from Val Kilmer to Peter Bogdanovich, she does dish it all. In fact, I’ve read so much already, as well as her stints onToday and Howard Stern, that actually buying the book might not be necessary.
Elliot Mintz
Elliot Mintz’s John & Yoko book on the other hand, seems to be a one-man show with the author himself promoting the book heavily on Facebook and going to book shops and asking if he could sign the copies they have. Odd, right? Publisher Dutton is probably saving a fortune with his one-man pro motion efforts …
Billy Preston
One of the literally dozens of rock docs in the ether has come out,Billy Preston-That’s The Way God Planned It. Apparently it came out on 11/18 with little advance notice. I have no idea where one might view it, but here’s a terrific review from Variety:https://variety.com/2024/film/reviews/billy-preston-thats-the-way-god-planned-it-review-1236215040/?fbclid=IwY2xjawGu9XpleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHQ76HqHkmavZYFl04bQI1ArE1Wxw7bS9UiQdF1ShUenZJ5_vT4PRLkZm6w_aem_AtwxQlxTWTxDe74RGpHD6A …There’s also an Allee Willis doc that’s about to come out too …
Phil O’Brien
Congrats to Phil O’Brien’s W42 tip-sheet, celebrating 10 years. A necessity in Hell’s Kitchen …
The U.K.’s Guardian on the new memoir from Bill Clinton: Clinton’s fame outstrips his popularity. Like an old-time vaudevillian, the 42nd president, now 78, finds it hard to leave the stage. His second memoir, subtitled My Life After the White House. is a stab at image rehabilitation and relevance. Densely written, the 464-page tome is a prolonged stroll down memory lane that never quite reaches a desired destination. It is too much, too little, too late – all at once …
Micky Dolenz and Billy Corgan
Micky Dolenz -seen here with Billy Corgan- sat for Corgan’spodcast last week. Details on broadcast to follow … As of press-time Wicked and Gladiator 2 were the weekend’s big movie’s as predicted but not as big as expected. Hmmm Happy Bday Danny Fried- RIP Jeff Schock; Arthur Fromer; and TV-host Chuck Wollery.

BADFINGER BACK —(via Forgotten Hits) In an exhilarating announcement for music aficionados and rock historians, the iconic British band Badfinger is proud to unveil the forthcoming release of their long-lost album “Head First” scheduled for 2024 – exactly 50 years after its original recording. This historic release features Peter Ham’s final studio recordings and marks a significant milestone in the band’s legacy, bringing forth an album that has been shrouded in mystery for decades.
“Head First” will be released on vinyl on December 13, 2024 on Y&T Music (CD TBA).
With hits such as “Come and Get It,” “No Matter What,” “Day After Day,” and “Baby Blue,” Badfinger has long been recognized as a formidable force in the power pop and classic rock genres of the 1970’s.
Originally laid down in 1974 at The Beatles’ renowned Apple Recording Studio on Savile Row, London, “Head First” encapsulates a transformative era in Badfinger’s storied career. The sessions for “Head First” took place during a tumultuous period for the band, marked by personal struggles and external challenges, which ultimately led to the album being shelved. For years, only a rough mix survived, with the master tapes thought to be lost. However, the recent rediscovery of the original multi-tracks has allowed for a meticulous mixing and mastering process, breathing new life into this long-hidden masterpiece. The release promises to provide fans with an authentic glimpse into the creative spirit of Badfinger during one of their most artistically rich periods.
The official release of “Head First” is not just an addition to Badfinger’s discography; it represents a rediscovery of a pivotal moment in rock history.
The album features tracks that showcase the band’s raw energy and emotive songwriting, resonating with both long-time fans and a new generation of listeners. The newly mastered sound highlights the band’s musicianship in an unprecedented way, revitalizing their enduring legacy.
Bob Jackson, the sole surviving member of the lineup, expressed his excitement: “On behalf of my bandmates – Pete, Tommy, and Mike – I am thrilled to say, ‘We did it, guys!’ This marks the culmination of a 50-year journey and it’s an honor to complete the vision we had all those years ago. The last piece of the puzzle is finally in place.”
TAMMY FAYE CRASHES — 5 days after its rather disastrous opening. Elton John’s Tammy Fayemusical has announced its closing.
I didn’t see it, so I do not know what happened, but the critics pounced on this like I’ve never seen before. Elton and Jake Shears (from The Scissor Sisters) put it all together. The clips I did see were not all that good and actually somewhat laughable. Sad for sure.
Butt don’t feel bad for Sir Elton, he still has The Devil Wears Prada ready to preview with Vanessa Williams and his Disney+ Never Too Late-doc. And, I hear the doc is terrific.
SHORT TAKES — The early reviews of Wicked are pretty sensational. Guess the media-onslaught worked. Congrats … I was in my gym the other day and on the screen was The Wizard Of Oz. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. What a classic. It still holds up.NBC’s Today continued with their Wicked-media campaign with original memorabilia from the film. Stunning! …
(Via Deadline) The Taylor Sheridan universe continues to expand at Paramount with Sunday’s promising launch of Landman. The series, which dramatizes the oil boom in the heart of west Texas, delivered 5.2M cross-platform same-day viewers, according to Paramount Global. When accounting for three days of viewing, it also became the best domestic premiere ever for the streamer, Paramount says … Landman was pretty good as Billy Bob shined throughout. The opening scene was him negotiating a deal while tied to a chair with a hood over his head. Jon Hamm was in it very briefly, but I am waiting for the first scene between him and Billy Bob …Micky Dolenz at next weekend’sNorthEast Comic Con in Foxboro, MA, speaks to WBZ’s Morgan White Saturday night and Cousin Brucie (aka Bruce Morrow) on 11/30 … Eric Carmen, remember him? YELLOWSTONE TIME — Yellowstone premiered last week and the opening scene was John Dutton’s death – an apparent suicide. Then it jumped back in time before his supposed death. Sunday’s episode did basically the same thing, totally confusing most viewers and setting off an angry stream of social media posts.
Cole Hauser
Why? I don’t really have an answer. But the one thing I do know is that Kevin Costner’s exit leaves a huge, huge hole. Cole Hauser as ranch-foreman Rip Wheeler, really does command the screen, but he just doesn’t have the same style as Costner had. That said,I’d have to say Hauser’s scenes impressed me more than ever on Sunday. Interesting fact: Hauser and Costner grew up together; in the same California town. Bet he’s still getting advice from Costner! Natch!
Whatever happens, it’s a real shame as Yellowstone really was and is a powerful drama. Not only did it succeed in bringing that Cowboy-genre back, but the stories were pretty sensational. The show was a textbook example of a strong cast with a major name in the lead and had a spectacular backdrop in Montana. Just an exemplary piece of work all around.
My all-time favorite scene was when Dabney Coleman played Dutton’s father and dies in his arms. What a great, great scene.Emmy-worthy for sure.
THE VILLAGE PEOPLE — Can you believe The Village People are back on the charts? Their “Goddess Of Love” is a hit 47 years after it was first released. Per Pro Motion’s Brad LeBeau -who had Eric Kupper do a remix on their track- it’s also their first charted record in 40 years!
What with their “Y.M.C.A.” played at weddings; bar mitzvahs and maybe even a re-election, they’re hotter than ever. Victor Willis is still in the group – after some 13 iterations. God bless them!
Check out this great piece from The Daily Beast: https://www.thedailybeast.com/village-people-willing-to-bury-the-hatchet-with-donald-trump-after-election-win/
SHORT TAKES — I watched some of the last two Saturday Night Live episodes and I have to say it was some of the worst writing and acting I’ve ever seen on the show.
Lorne Michaels
I am totally embarrassed for Lorne Michaels and can’t see the show going into its 51st. season. Sad for sure … Whatever happened to Wendy Stuart Kaplan? Wow, another Wicked week on Today. As a chronicler of all-things-pop-culture I have to commend the marketing efforts behind Comcast’s Wicked. I think I saw commercials tub-thumping the movie on Target too. Just so impressive, although I don’t know what the movie will brings review-wise. One thing I didn’t know and found out is that the movie opening this week is just Part 1. Part 2 debuts next year. Honestly, that sounds like a risky proposition to me. Stay tuned …
Big surprise: Prime Video/Amazon is shutting down Freevee. It was introduced in January 2022. Honestly, with a name like that, I’m surprised it lasted that long … Can you believe that the famed Italian-eatery Rao’s has a float in next week’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? …
Cher’s Hoda/Today Show interview for her new memoir was essentially the same questions and answers as on her CBS/Anthony Mason one – except that when she said f— it wasn’t bleeped! Maybe a first for the Today Show … A Wonderful World was pretty good. I knew the story of Satchmo and although somewhat briefly presented onstage, it definitely brought the crowd the inside skinny on Mr. Armstrong. Genie-James Monroe Iglehart was great, but his 4 leading ladies were most superb and each time they sang, the production inched up several notches. Darlesia Cearcy; Kim Exum; Dionne Figgins; and Jennie Harney-Fleming just all staggeringly good The audience (at Studio 54) was SRO … Via TV Line: Fleetwood Mac will tell their story in their own words for the first time in an upcoming documentary from Apple Original Films.Directed by five-time Academy Award nominee and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Oscar winner Frank Marshall (The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart), the fully authorized doc will feature exclusive new interviews with band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, archival interviews of the late Christine McVie, and never-before-seen footage. The untitled film will explore how the legendary band’s “trials and tribulations, personal resilience, and musical dexterity combined to create songs that have not only stood the test of time but are indeed timeless masterpieces,” reads the official description. “It will take fans through the highs and lows of their brilliant career, illuminating the exceptional ingredients each member brought to the band’s uncommon alchemy – a musical union that sold more than 220 million records around the world”.. Happy Bday Cody Gaier and RIP Shel Talmy!
